Stop Catalogs with the Click of a Mouse

Got a pile of catalogs clogging up your mailbox? According to the website Catalog Choice, more than 19 billion catalogs were mailed to American consumers in 2005 and most of these were unsolicited. If you read the fine print on the back of those catalogs, you will notice that the company “conveniently” includes a phone number or address that you can contact to request that your name is taken off their mailing list. Unfortunately, not many parents (even green parents) have time for that exercise in futility.

Case in point, several months ago I received an unrequested catalog from a company and was irritated enough to make the call. Twenty minutes, 2 crying kids, and 3 transferred phone calls later I was finally off their mailing list…or so I thought. Even though the rep claimed I would be off their list “within six weeks” I have received catalogs from that company as recently as last week.

But thanks to Catalog Choice, I may get the last laugh after all. This new and totally awesome service lets you opt-put from catalog mailing lists with the simple click of a button. You just sign up, choose from their huge list of catalogs, and opt-out to your heart’s content.

If you are getting catalogs that you do want, check out my post on reusing and recycling magazines for some ideas to keep those catalogs out of the trash can. For all the rest, check out Catalog Choice and let those companies know that you want OUT!

    Great post on Catalog Choice

I wanted to give you a heads-up on another great Web site that I thought your readers would find interesting and help them de-clutter their mailboxes and simplify their lives.

Its called ProQuo.com, a free, easy-to-use site that gives you the ability to remove yourself from the most commonly used marketing lists in a matter of minutes!

Who knew that Americans receive nearly four million tons of junk mail each year and the average consumer can be on thousands of marketing mailing lists at any time? We are flooded with unwanted advertisements, credit card offers and political propaganda, which can bury the mail we are looking for…not to mention create a drain on the environment.

    Take care,
