See You In Chicago!
If you are anywhere in or around the Chicago area this weekend, you have just got to make your way over to the Green Festival at Navy Pier. Co sponsored by Global Exchange and Co-Op America, this year’s festival is sure to be an eco-geek’s dream come true with more than 350 local and national green businesses showing off their wares as well as over 150 inspirational speakers presenting topics on everything from “Cleaning Up Chicago’s Waterways” to “Worker Owned Chocolate!” Stop by to meet The Green Parent’s own Jenn Savedge who will be teaching parents how to “Raise Children Without Trashing The Planet” on Sunday at 1pm in Room 3.
Bring your kids along to check out the Green Kids Zone where they can learn about worm composting, meet local aquatic animals, design and build their own set of butterfly wings, see an eco-savvy magician, and check out a van that runs on pure vegetable oil!
The festival also includes exhibits and presentations in their Green Home Pavillion, a Green Careers Center as well as an Eco-Film Fest and two days of Yoga classes sure to please everyone in the family (I can’t wait to check out “Circus Yoga for Families” at 3pm on Saturday!)
Get $5 off festival admission price by bringing along 3 books to donate that will be used to fund girls’ scholarships in developing nations through Room to Read.

Our family attended the Green Festival in Washington, D.C. this past summer. Not only did we learn a lot about environmental efforts and businesses, but there were plenty of free samples for attendees too! My husband’s favorites included the Stonyfield Farms’ free food.
No more refusal on daily chores on that part – brushing teeth, eating, shower, etc. These family weekends usually end up crying, wanting to go back to grandmas place.
