Green Schools: A New Bill May Help Your Child's School Go Green

Does your child’s school need some help going green? That help may be coming in the form of federal dollars. Last week, the House passed the 21st Century Green High-Preforming Public Schools Facilities Act which would earmark $6.4 billion for eco-friendly projects that help modernize public school facilities. The projects would have to meet to criteria for building construction and/or energy efficiency of one of these programs:

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System
Energy Star
Collaborative For High Performance Schools

Green schools save tons of money over the years on stuff like energy, water, trash removal, sewage treatment, landscaping…money that can go into more important things like smaller class sizes and improved academic programs. And study after study shows that green school projects such as planting gardens, reducing cafeteria waste, and using eco-friendly cleaning products provide a healthier learning environment which improves morale, minimizing teacher sick days and boosting student’s test scores.

So what can you do to support this initiative? The green schools bill is headed to Senate next, so now would be a good time to f

ind your Senator on this list (organized alphabetically by state) and get in touch.

Malignant mesothelioma affects the lining or membranes of certain large cavities in the body. These cavities, called the serous cavities, house certain major organs in the body including the heart, lungs, abdomen and others. The membranes that surround these cavities are called the serous membranes. They serve to protect these major organs from the friction and abrasion that occur as the organs move against each other during typical daily functioning, such as breathing and heart beating. The serous membranes derive from specialized cells called mesothelial cells. These cells form to create the mesothelium, which is the major tissue layer of the serous membranes. Cancer that occurs in the mesothelium tissue is called mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare & uncommon type of cancer which is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. In mesothelioma, malignant type cells form and develop within the mesothelium. These cells also cover the outer surface of most internal organs. The tissue formed by these cells is called mesothelium. Mesothelioma is most common in the pleura which is the outer lining of the lungs, but it can also arise in the peritoneum or the pericardium which protects the heart.

  3. Mesothelioma – Incredibly vitamin C is one of the most controversial alternative treatments for cancer. administered now vitamins C to cancer patients and reportedly had excellent results.Unfortunately, there have been no clinical studies in which mesothelioma patients were administered immune boosting natural products like medicinal mushrooms, vitamins, or herbs to determine their potential impact on survival or quality of life. The current paradigm of using cytotoxic cell killing therapies and the monetary incentive to create easily patentable drugs are two disincentives to engage in such a study. It is easy to understand why a drug company would not invest the estimated $300 million to bring a new treatment to market when the treatment is a natural product and can be purchased in a health food store for a few dollars.
