Green Gift Week
We’re talking green gifts this week…as in, what is a green gift, where can you get one, and how do you get your friends to give them to you (and your kids!)
For starters, check out this post that teensygreen wrote over at 5 Minutes 4 Going Green on The Green Gifting Dilemma. It really hit home with me as my eldest will be six this October and I, too, am wondering how to have a party for her that doesn’t generate a houseful of planet-trashing gifts. Got a suggestion? Leave a comment below and I’ll make sure your name goes in the hat for our current contest to win a Waste-Free Lunch kit from ECOBAGS. And check back later in the week because I’ll put the best ideas together in a post that shows you “How To Get A Green Gift.”
Also on tap this week, stop in tomorrow for a special guest post from Nick Kellet (founder of GiftTRAP) that sheds some light on how much money we all waste on gifts (even the green ones!) And stayed tuned throughout the week for more green gift giving (and getting) tips!

I am planning my son’s birthday right now, and trying to figure out how to green the party and the gift giving. I haven’t gotten that far, but I think for favors we are going to give small plants in recyclable containers or seeds. So no small silly plastic toys.
No disposable plastic-real plates and silverware.
But we still haven’t done the theme so I don’t know about the decorations. Definitely no balloons, however.

I sympathize because I’ve got a house full of plastic toys that are just useless clutter. I’ve decided to donate more than half of what my 18 month old has to our church pre-school. A kind of recycling, I suppose!
Thanks for the mention! It’s amazing how many people are struggling with planning eco-friendly birthday parties right now! I can’t wait to see what you write about this week, and I’m definitely going to have to document my daughter’s party results in October.

Another great idea for a green gift are cookie bouquets! Before you question this idea, be sure to check out Bloomingcookies.com. There u will find out they use eco-friendly wrapping for all their gift baskets.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Many thanks!
