Poll: Is It Tacky To Ask For A Green Gift?

It’s Green Gift Week here at The Green Parent and we’ve been talking about the “green gifting dilemma” and green gifts that are not really green. There’s loads of info on the web about buying green gifts, but this week we’re trying to find out how you can GET a green gift when it’s your turn to receive. Or more importantly, how you can get a green gift for your child in lieu of the cheap, plastic, planet-trashing stuff that’s destined for tomorrow’s junk heap. Is it acceptable to just come right out and ask?

Weigh in…I’ll post the survey results on Friday, along with some great tips to help you (and your kids) GET green gifts!

just came across this link today related to this subject:

might seem extreme for some but it’s kind of a cool twist on green giving.

During the holiday season, my in-laws and husband ask me for a wish list. Last year, my list included lots of green gift ideas. My in-laws were happy because they knew what to get me, and I was happy because the gifts I got were useful and sustainable (examples include an REI recycled fleece sweater, Grist’s Wake up and Smell the Planet http://www.grist.org/wakeup/, and FSC pencils so that I could make cards for people on recycled paper.)
