If a practitioner chooses to break the mold and go in a different direction, that is fine, but that is broken transmission of the system and would not be representative of the system itself.

The first is the world of the Karateka who wants to fight and comes from a background where fighting with your art and testing it against all comers is their reality. If those guys showed up in todays world, they would test themselves and start the process of fixing whatever holes they found in their art. Few of them would get bowled over by a wrestler or BJJ guy becuase in the above persons world, those things already existed in their world. Judo, sumo, JJ, were all there and they were used to operating in a world where that type of fighter could be the guy you had to fight. They would adjust and continue on the path of improving the fighting aspects of their art.
