Give Your Loved One An Eco-Lovey
Stuffed animals always make wonderful gifts for little ones. More often than not, it doesn’t even matter what they look like, as long as they’re soft and snuggly, and fit just right under a child’s arm. And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, a stuffed animal might make the perfect lovey for your little lovey. But how do choose a safe and healthy alternative from the gazillions of stuffed animals that are stocked on store shelves?
For safety’s sake, look for plush toys that do not have small pieces such as beads for eyes or sequins for decoration that can fall off and end up in a baby’s mouth. And avoid stuffed animals that are filled with beads or beans that a baby could choke on if the toy broke open.
I’ve written before about the benefits of natural toys in boosting creativity and sparking a child’s imagination. You can find all-natural, organic stuffed animals, from sites such as Gaiam. Or browse through one of the many cuddly, green, handmade stuffed animals from Eco-Artware that are made from clean, recycled fabric.
Another option is the new line of eco-plush toys from Aurora that are handmade from 100% soybean fibers. Aurora’s line includes arctic and endangered animals like polar bears, penguins and pandas, as well as jungle animals such as gorillas, monkeys, elephants and hippos.
The best news about all of these eco-toys? One lucky winner will win an eco-plush toy from Aurora’s new line …just in time for Valentine’s Day! Want to win? Leave me a comment below and tell me about your favorite stuffed animal (yours or your babies) For an extra entry, hop on over to our green parents forum and post a picture of your favorite lovey! One winner will be chosen at random on Monday, Jan 26th at 5pm EST. Good luck…can’t wait to see those pics!!

We have a giant stuffed elephant that my husband and I bought when we were on our honeymoon. Our children now ride on it, jump on it, and love it to death!
Really cute!
When I was younger I used to play with this crazy looking cat that I just loved and adored. My husband played with this cute bear. We both still have our animals and now that we our pregnant with our first child we will be passing on the animals and also starting the babies own animal too:) Can’t wait for that time to get here. So much to look foward too!! Thank you for a chance to win a really neat toy.
Oh, my niece would love this… green and cute! My favorite stuffed animal was a gray and white rabbit, pretty small in size and I played with him so much, he lost a good portion of his fur. But, he was clearly well loved!
I had a gray Koala when I was about 10 that I named Bast after my gray cat Bast had to be put down. I still have it, my kids have adopted it, but it’s still around!
my favorite stuffed toy as a child was a sheep–very sturdy and not very plush or soft, but it was a special gift and unique-looking, so i loved it. thanks for the chance to win an eco toy!
awe. what a cute stuffed animal. has such a sweet face and looks very cuddly. we loved stuffed animals. My oldest daughter loves unicorns and my youngest loves anything that is different and cudly. My birthday is Monday woohoo. fingers crossed.
Thanks for the chance to win an eco/green stuffy.
My 13 yo daughter has a stuffed ostrich. The oversized beanie baby one. She has had it for many years and has even started practicing her hand sewing by making clothes for “Mr. Strich” out of clothes she has outgrown. I am proud of her for reusing her old clothes in a fun and useful way.
My daughter’s favorite stuffed toy is a pink princess with magenta hair…we’ve hit an ‘everything pink’ stage and I don’t see it coming to an end any time soon! My son, on the other hand is still looking for a special stuffed animal to embrace and love…if it were less costly I’d love to purchase organic toys exclusively considering the amount of time my kids spend playing with their toys!
That has to be piggy, my son’s lovey. He’s had him for more than two years, and now he looks more like a dog toy then a stuffed animal, but he never goes anywhere without him. One item to note - the new consumer product safety act, which will take effect in early Feb. will be devastating to the artists and small companies that produce the kind of earth safe toys we look for. The act will require anyone who makes and sells toys for kids comply with product testing to show that their toys don’t contain lead. etc. Of course we want this from the cheap imports, but it will put out of business the local artist who makes plush toys, by adding $3,000 - $4,000 cost per type of item for the testing and certification. It’s exactly what our economy, and our small green businesses, DON’T need.
My daughter still plays with MY favorite stuffed animal growing up - odie, a little stuffed dog who I used to hold and pet when we were in the car because I thought people in other cars would think I had a real dog. Surely I didn’t fool anyone
my favorite stuffed animal is a stuffed teddy bear that my mom bought for me when i was a kid. the bear is soft and cuddly and has been sitting on my night stand for many many years!
My daughter’s favorite is this red bull dog that my husband won for me years ago at a fair. He has managed to survive 4 years in this tough household, lol
Our favorite stuffed animal is the National Geographic puppet Lion. We have had it for years and love the video that goes with it.
OMG! I love these dolls-My favorite is the Penguin or the Gorilla. Way eco adorb!
Oops…meant to add this My son’s would prolly be the bear or raccoon.
Very cute! I had a giraffe, nothing special, but I loved chewing on the ears as a baby. My baby now has her own giraffe that she loves as well.
We’re a celestially lovin’ family, so it makes sense that my ds would fall in love with a magical moon gazing handmade mermaid whose tail is brilliantly a’lit with stars! This mermaid has his heart and imagination and goes pretty much everywhere with him, especially at night when we gaze at the planets and stars! He even chews on her on occasion, but she doesn’t mind. There’s such magic in true love! : )))
Thanks so much for this fabulous give~away! : )))

Back in 1991. A game called Sonic the Hedgehog was made…and it’s greatness! Ever since I first played this game I still play it all of the time! The gameplay is amazing! It started a whole series that is still popular today! The graphics are stunning for its time, and I still enjoy them! Certaintly the best game on the Genesis(only serpassed by its sequels.) Buy this game! You won’t regret it.
My favourite stuffy is a little pink pig, named Pig. He’s been all over the world in the 20 years I’ve had him, as he goes along on every trip. He’s even been to three war zones when he was taken to Bosnia, and twice to Afghanistan. =)
