March Madness: Scrambling to find kid-friendly vegetarian meals
My girls have entered a picky stage of eating which I’m told may well last the remainder of their childhood years. Truth be told, my eldest daughter has never been very adventurous when it comes to meal time. If the adage, “you are what you eat,” is true, then she is a buttered noodle with Parmesan cheese.
My youngest daughter, on the other hand, used to have an open mind when she sat down to eat. But for the past few months, she has grown more and more stubborn about what is, and more specifically, what IS NOT allowed on her plate.
In an effort to eat more locally and sustainably, I have been trying to minimize the amount of meat we eat each week. But it’s hard enough to find vegetarian meals that my firefighting spouse will eat and find satisfying. Add two picky pint-sized connoisseurs to the mix and we are left with, well buttered noodles, and little else.
But all of that changed a few weeks ago when I was invited to try out a new service called the Six O’clock Scramble that aims to tame the March Mealtime Madness…that hectic springtime family meal that squeezes in between school, work, and soccer practice. The purpose of The Scramble is to help parents find fast and healthy meals that their kids will actually eat. And they don’t just send you meal ideas, they send you a customizable meal plan for the week complete with nutrition information for each meal, a weekly grocery list, and even side dish ideas.
Of course, all of that is great. But the things that really impressed me about this service were:
- I could customize the meal plan to specifically seek out vegetarian meals for kids.
- My kids L.O.V.E.D. every meal.
AND
I’m not kidding about that last one either. One month ago, I never would have believed that my kids would soon be eating Manhattan Clam-Less Chowder, Vegetarian Sloppy Joes, or Spinach Ricotta Pie. But it’s true, not only are they eating these things, they are loving them. My once picky girls even asked for seconds on their Polenta Mash….POLENTA MASH for heaven’s sakes!!
That tells me that the recipes provided by the Six O’clock Scramble are not just healthy, vegetarian meals. They are kid-friendly meals that have been tested and tweaked to perfection.
Want to give it a try? For the next week, TGP readers can get a special discount of $5 off the usual Scramble six-month subscription price of $29.50 ($10 off the annual subscription) by using the promo code “TWITTERMOMS”. Offer ends March 31st.

I just ordered the cookbook for Trendy Diva so now maybe there’ll be something new, healthy that she likes
Thanks.
I am also a vegetarian and my body has never been in a very good shape. Being a vegan can really make you much heathier.’,~
