I’m about to take a journey this summer, and I’m taking you along for the ride.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that I am very interested in health and fitness, and I try to make these two issues a priority in the decisions I make. Unless, of course, the health and fitness at stake are my own and then I seem to make consistently inconsistent decisions that thwart my overall progress and goals. Last fall, I ran a marathon. Then I pretty much stopped exercising altogether and gained 10 pounds over the winter.
At the end of this year, I will turn {gasp} 40! So I want more than ever to get control of my health and my fitness, making exercise and healthy eating a consistently consistent part of my routine. Coincidentally - or maybe not so coincidentally - I have agreed to be a part of two different initiatives that will help me focus on these goals. Starting June 18th, I will join hands with 25 leading health, fitness, and eco-bloggers to train, inspire, motivate, lose weight, get fit, reduce stress, and take control of our health. The priorities of this Sustain Your Self team are to share information and resources and inspire each other toward achieving our individual health and fitness goals.
All of this motivation and inspiration will come in handy as I begin my second health and fitness initiative. I have been selected to be part of Team Cinchspiration. I will be one of 50 bloggers who will try the Shaklee weight loss program, Cinch, this summer, blogging about my results all along the way. Full disclosure: I will get all of the Cinch materials, resources, and products for free from Shaklee for the next 6 months. But you won’t have to worry about bias. The numbers, and the pictures {GASP!} will speak for themselves. I will either lose weight, or I won’t. But I will promise you that I will stick to the program and give it my very best shot so that you can evaluate whether or not it might work for you.
I also have a number of fitness goals in my sights:
- Luray Sprint Triathlon – I have participated in relay events for the sprint, but I have never completed the whole thing on my own. This will involve swimming 750 meters, biking 16 miles on a challenging bike course {gulp}, and running 3.1 miles.
- Swim: Luray International Triathlon – I will swim 1500 meters as part of an International Triathlon team. My team mates will round out the event with 26 miles on the bike and a 6.2 mile run.
- Richmon Half Marathon – Sure, I’d love to add another marathon notch to my belt this year to commemorate my 40th, but the reality is that training for a marathon is like taking on an additional part-time job. I would like to do it again sometime. But I think part of celebrating my health this year is learning how to incorporate fitness into my everyday life rather than training for an event to the point of burnout and then planting myself on the sofa when the event is over.
Here we go…pics and measurements coming on “Weigh-In Wednesday!”
