Eco-Reviews: Saving The World At Work

Are you ready to save the world?

Are you ready to save the world?

Yesterday, Eco-Office Gal taught us how small businesses can make a huge difference by going green.  Today, we’re taking things one step further.  Your actions in the workplace can help you do more than just be a little green…they can truly help you save the world.

Just released today… Saving The World At Work, a new book by Tim Sanders inspires readers with stories about real people who made a huge difference in their workplace and in their world. How did they do it?  By taking the time to care.

My favorite?  The 16 year old waitress who convinced her boss (who just happened to be her father) to recycle all of the glass, plastic, and paper they were previously throwing away.  Her environmental passion “lit a fire” under her father who not only instituted a recycling program but went on to purchase renewable energy credits to offset his restaurant’s carbon emissions, install energy efficient lighting, and work with his staff to find more ways to conserve energy and paper.

His actions (spurred by his daughter) not only made a huge difference to the planet, but they also made headlines throughout the restaurant industry and eventually in USAToday.

Do you want to save the world at work?  You don’t have to own your own business or work for a multi-billion dollar company to spur change.  Every simple action that each of us takes to go green makes a huge difference to the health of the planet.

I’m giving away FIVE copies of Saving The World At Work to help inspire green parents to make a difference. Contest ends 9/18.  Just leave a comment below to enter!

  1. Sounds like an interesting book! Love the story about the daughter.

  2. Brooke says:

I work at a Sheriff’s Office and while we strive to save lives, I am always amazed that we don’t work harder to save the planet. I am psyched to read this book!

  3. Julie says:

Always eco-conscious but also am now inflicting it on my family, friends and even clients. So far, no one is offended. :)

  4. Shelley Stelly says:

I have lots of drive and passion when it comes to the environment but I feel like I have no where to go with it in my workplace! I work for a law firm and we GO THROUGH SOME PAPER!! Most of it is sensitive though so we can’t just recycle it. Does anyone know what we can do with shredded paper?

  5. Lynnae says:

Right now there are NO recycling bins at my office anywhere…so I’m working to get some. I’ve started a bin where we can at least re-use paper.

I’d love to see what this book has to say.

  6. Mickie says:

    Sounds like a great book!

  7. Courtney K. says:

I work in state government, and while we do recycle, we print WAY too much! I’d love to read this book.

  8. This sounds like a great book with lots of helpful information on helping our planet and making our lives better.

  9. Sharon says:

One option for sensitive documents is to use them as pet bedding - does one of the lawyers have a rabbit or hamster?

  10. Very interesting. We have recycle bins at home and at the office. It’s been taking some time however, I think the green awareness is growing and will continue to grow in many different areas of our lives. Hopefully we’ll see a snow ball effect in the coming years…
